ROYAL PRAISE FOR WIDNES GOLF CLUB

At a recent reception held at Windsor Castle by the Duke of Edinburgh, and attended by the Lady Captain of Widnes Golf Club, Mrs Diane Patmore and her husband, Brian (Sam), Vice President, the Ladies` Section of the club received a special mention.  The reception was held to thank all the clubs who had supported the Playing Fields Association charity, of which the Duke is the chief patron.  All the representatives of the eighty or so participating clubs who attended were greeted personally by the Duke, but in his final speech the Duke singled out the ladies  of Widnes Golf Club to thank them for their steadfast support of the charity over the fifty nine years since its inauguration..
The Lady Captain explained to the Duke that a Shield presented in 1950 was played for each year, and was able to show him a photograph of  the presentation of the award to the current proud holder, Mrs Linda Wilson.
